If you've been here for the past few days, you'd know that I just finished revamping the CaveList. If you don't know what it is, it's a giant database of a ton of HATPC usernames with caves uploaded to them. I revamped it so that using CSD's CaveBot V2 would be much easier, and I added a ton of cool stuff.

First of all, I've completely got rid of the Cave Grabber (the links to it are still up, but they bring you to the cavelist instead). Now if you want to look up a code, check it out on the CaveList! And if the name isn't in our database, it'll automatically add it. I've also added a praise system similar to the cheap excuse for a rating system that the galleries used to have. But the point of the praise system is to have something super simple that'll help us find the good caves out of a horde of bad caves. So you guys should go around and praise all of each others' usernames.

I've also added a search, which can let you look through both titles and names, so if you forgot the name of an account, you can use the name search to help you remember it. Also note that titles of levels can change if that user uploads another level to it, and the title in our database updates every time the page for that username is loaded.

Most important is the "Massive Username Addition" page that is only for mods, which let us upload massive quantities of names into the database while doing various checks and error logs. Oh and there's also a Random Cave button, which loads a random name so that you can spend the whole day playing HATPC levels off the cavelist. And whatever you do don't miss the big fat red link to open the HATPC Window. I learned through experience that people will miss that button no matter what, so that's why it looks like that.

Oh and with this the CaveList has reached its 2,000th cave!

I think he said that he got his names from our list? But it's possible that some got auto-added through searches that we don't have, but it probably won't be very many.

I think I gave him a list of them all, but yeah, he probably has some that we don't; and it'll be quick since I won't have to double check to make sure there's a level up.

btw, both our systems are now very similar, except for the fact that he records much more information

New Updates!
You now have some browsing options for when you're looking through the regular list-- so basically you don't have to go to search anymore in order to control the order of the results or to look up by praise.

You can also look at a list of all of the levels that you've praised by looking at the new "Your Favorites" page. :O

The new features don't work across pages... Well... actually they do, just, the page buttons don't bring you to the right place.

"You now have some browsing options for when you're looking through the regular list"

Try using those, and then going to the second page by using the links at the bottom.

Yeah, I said earlier that it'd work with pages, except the links weren't right... What I believe I said was:

"The new features don't work across pages... Well... actually they do, just, the page buttons don't bring you to the right place."

Where's the confusion there, exactly? Well... maybe you thought I meant the favourites page...

yeah I thought you meant the links on the top of the page. I mean, anything can be a "page button". b/c hyperlinks take you to pages....

You wanna update the news for #3000? It still says 2000, but there's 50% more caves now.

The CaveList now records more information, including: width and height of the cave, terrain type, water type, and if there's water in the cave at all.

currently working on: map generator to convert cavecodes into images

I don't know if.... I like them being displayed all the time like they are now... I'm going to trust you for now, but I want it to look better when you're finished. Like, maybe they only need to show up on search pages? Otherwise, you have the text and you can (will be able to) get a graphical version if you want it, so you can figure it out... And if you REALLY need to know, like, the width, well, that never happens, but you can just do a search as a worst-case.

Since there are going to be two version of the map generator (one small, one full-res) then I can probably set an option to whether you want to load a mini-map instead of the cave code every time. that would be cool

go to any page in the cavelist to see its generated map

Tomorrow I'll add those extra search options that will let you browse and search based on the new data. I'll also add an option for you to turn off the auto-map generator in case it's too slow for you. I even added a counter to it to track how long it takes to load. And that's just tracking it on the server's side. If you have slow internet, it's gonna be much worse. But the less variety in tiles that a level has, the faster its map loads. It's the same for when you're loading the map in HATPC, too.

so as soon as you introduce another type of tile the map gets slower?
