1st:Great Lakes Monument - Quirvy, Livio (Great Lakes) 2nd:D52 Statue and Temple - Yuggy (TEAM Canadianstickdeath, Dekudude, GF4, Krotomo, & Yuggy) No Show:The Purple Okapis -- but given the unusual circumstances with the server, we kinda let this slide...
Now to tally up the points. We got rid of last years super convoluted scheme and went by this simple score board: 3 points if you're first, 2 if you're second, and 1 if you're third.
IO 2011 Final Pentathlon Rankings
1st:TEAM Canadianstickdeath, Dekudude, GF4, Krotomo, & Yuggy (15 points) 2nd: The Great Lakes (12 points) 3rd: The Purple Okapis (4 points)
We then factored in the Pentathlon Rankings into the final rankings as if it were just another round.
IO 2011 FINAL TEAM RANKINGS
1st:TEAM Canadianstickdeath, Dekudude, GF4, Krotomo, & Yuggy (30 points) 2nd: The Great Lakes (28 points) 3rd: The Purple Okapis (13 points)
And now the individual rankings. These do not factor into the final team rankings.
The Zeroes: They tried, but they didn't win any points:
DeathBunni X (0 points)
guyguyxtreme (0 points)
nebnebben (0 points)
The Dropouts: They did not contribute to their teams:
Bryan

We were considering splitting points between players who entered collab levels, but then we decided that it really wasn't fair, especially considering that these have no effect on team rankings. The reason I lost the tie breaker with soccerboy was because if we had split the points, he would've done better than me, so he deserves to be placed higher.
Man, I SUCKED this year, lol. I apologize to my fellow Purple Okapis for my dismal point gathering skills; thank goodness for Shos. When shall the team/judge boards be released?
COMING SOON: A giant meteor. Please.
Give me +karma. Give me +karma.
Thanks to:
Livio and Soccerboy for trying hard and helping our team almost win
The judges(Jazz, Dando, and Isa/Jell) for taking their time to judge the comps
And everyone else for dealing with how long it took to get judging finished and sent out
You'll notice that the top 3 in individual rankings are all from the Great Lakes, but that we didn't win. That's because while "TEAM Canadianstickdeath, Dekudude, GF4, Krotomo, & Yuggy" didn't have anyone perform too amazingly overall, they got help from all of their members, while we were stuck with Bryan who never entered into any comps, and nebneb, who only entered into one comp and ended up in second to last in his. So it kind of actually supports the idea that a team that works together > a team with a few good players.
Although, actually in terms of competitions they collaborated the least, I believe, while us the most. If I recall correctly, their only collab was the 5 minutes collab that earned them last, while me and Livio collaborated on two different projects, the Great Lakes Monument (which won 1st and 2nd place in 2 comps) and Dry Lake (which won 1st in the collab comp). But you know what I mean.
If you were there during the week we made the collab, you'd see that I attempted very hard to get him to help us out with the collab, but I dunno what happened with him.
Also, I thought it was kind of funny that I came up with my NES by making an intentionally similarly sounding title to GF4s NES, and I ended up finishing ahead of him. I never heard any feedback from that story, other than Dando's judge post, because she gave feedback in about each of her posts, defending her decisions. But I can't really complain that much since most people didn't get any feedback on their stories at all.
I'm trying to keep the criticisms short, since I had no part in creating these Olympics, cuz I know if I was an IO judge/competition creator, there would've been twice as many problems. But I feel if we would've done slightly more generic or broad comps like the past 2 years, we would've gotten more entries. I mean, the level-making aspects are dying moderately fast on this site, and making awkward comps such as "Speedrun Video" or "Portrait " didn't really help.
Once again, all respect to the people who ran this; it's just my 2 slightly worth less than Harumbai's, but more than Mozart625's cents.

Yeah. I wish the guys who decide the comp things would just make things like... 'Water level with no water' or '-2.5 arrows' or maybe even 'Level that goes around in a circle so whoever plays it suffers from vertigo'... wait, I mean 'water', 'no arrows', and 'circle level', and 'blah blah blah I don't know what I'm talking about if you understand this you get karma seriously I dunno how to end this properly cause this whole post doesn't make much sense anyways ah screw it I'll just end it with a

You actually had 2 more points than Harumbai in the IO (although likely because of his hatpc failure)
Anyways, I kind of get what you were saying, I wasn't a big fan of the speedrun video, jell imitation or try something new comps.
I did think that the Portrait comp was a great comp, although I've historically made lots of caves using the idea of using paint to transform an image into a template (Mental madness, die, black pawkeet, 6 floors, metal meepit, ect). I thought that the entries could have been more interesting, though, specifically the tentacle, the Sprout and Ace of Spades, those seemed kind of bland IMO.
I wanted to make a portrait cave of The Flying Spaghetti Monster, but my free time was completely close-lined that week by preparing to go on vacation, doing summer reading, and making the purple okapis collab. If I get motivated, I might still try to make one.
And I was legitimately impressed by how much time you took to make a simple template for I would've gave up or BS'd it.

I was going to say that I don't remember how long it took me, but now that I think about it, I think that I actually did it either over two days, or morning and evening separately. But I might be getting confused with making the actual cave, because I know I made the first part one day, and the second the following day.
I think I saved a .png file for it. All you really have to do is size the image down enough so that it's dimensions in pixels can be the dimensions of a cave, and then you just decide which pixels are black, and which are white. It might seem time consuming, and maybe it took about an hour or 2 to make the .png and then transfer that into a cave template on cavemaker. Just make sure that you're kind of doing something else at the same time, though, because it can get boring to do if you're not doing anything else simultaneously, although perhaps that's just the multitasker in me.
It was totally worth it, though, because that cave was fun to make, and it turned out really good, too.

AND THAT, is why it needs a walkthrough.

firstly, I'd like to congratulate all the winners and stuff, the winners in each comp really deserve it imo, at least the #1 in all of them. and I checked! lol.
then I'd like to say taht at first I was quite surprised to see that my team scored last with so little lame-ish points, but then I realized it wasn't really a team, but more of two people+ace of spades. the other teams talked, members contributed and debated and stuff, and we didn't, lol. we got "so much" points simply because I entered all the comps, lol. *is mad at guyguy*
next, I'd like to say taht our team has 13 points, which is 9 by me+4 by yaya+2 by harumbai. which gives us the 13=15, which shows us that we're actually all carrots(google the proof, it's nice, starting from 0=1). considering the fact that the collab earned us 2 points, we should have 13 tho, so nvm

Shos sorta deserves an honorary mention for participating in all competitions but one.
lol! and the only one I didn't was the one you have to pay lots of money to play! *is proud*
now for the more serious stuff, there are things I really can't understand. for example, the new Gems comp? the rankings look, to me, at least, completely randomized. my entry got the last place, and I really can't seem to understand why. my comment on my cave:
Spoiler:

So uh, I submitted this level to the comp. the alternative was tutorial 3's gem; because it maintained simplicity and almost nothing changed at all. but this level - well it's much better, gamewise. try playing it a few times, test your options and then open spoiler:
so I removed one spike so that the cheating through the wall can be done; so that's one way to beat the level quite easily. however, if you want it to be more TNT-like, it's also possible without it. if you wait for the water to rise, take the gem and start swimming - well, there are 2 taps now, so you're gonna have to be quick. if you're REALLY quick, you can survive the swim from the air pockets to the next air before the water is filled; you'll make it with a quarter of a tile left to breath in, and then it will fill up. if you're not quick enough, remember you can breath with the ladders!
have you even looked at the other entries? the 2nd place winner was reaaaaally lame imo, especially knowing it's a third version of th level, so ugly to correct cheatabilities. no thought seems to have been invested in certain levels. did you even SEE #6? did you read any comments? what?? and about #8? does it really look like a gem for you? it adds around 7 tiles to your way while beating the level, no difficulty a, no thought used to make it, i dunno what else to say.. how can my entry possibly be last in such a comp? yes, the level I used a gem for is bad, but clearly it would be, since it's an original level. the gem had thought invested into it; it can be achieved via normal swimming too, but it'll make the level harder than level 17; so if you don't wanna do it that way, you can use our glitches here, and get through the wall to beat it easy, or breath through the ladders if you're just unlucky or something. really, I'm disappointed here. no offense if I flamed any of you, I used #s, not names, dunno whose levels these are..
the next thing I'm alittle disappointed about is the Super Mania comp. People Fall got #1? O_o...that's...what? That Stupid Circle is #2? same comment lol, I just re-played this level 5 times, and I can't seem to fail there. that's a game of thinking, these two levels are just...bad. In my opinion, even without playing #5 and 6(I can't seem to be able to play these games, help? on another topic please) I'd put the first two in the last two places. once again, no offense if anyone considers these flaming, I gave constructive criticism on almost all levels I had something to say about, I think.
Shos, I respect your opinions, but you do remember what happened the last time you bashed some of the judges decisions? Keep in mind this is your fellow teammate criticizing you. This border-line whining just makes you look like a poor sport, especially since these are two comps that you entered in and didn't place high.
Am I necessarily happy with the places I got? No, but I don't see any reason to complain. There will be plenty more opportunities to win big in the future and if me/you got better places in certain comps, we would've taken those places away from other people who made levels for those comps. Levels most likely better than ours. And considering how many comps the judges had to judge, they probably won't be eager while reading this either.
Other than that, great performance in the IO.

yaya, it's not that I'm whining about not winning. I did not expect to win, practically anything; I even think I should not win in these comps. and I'm not asking for a rejudge again XD I know the world, I've experienced losing quite alot in my life. In fact, I only said what was on my mind when I saw the results. you know, since the judges don't give you constructive criticism and all they say is their final opinion, you can't not get alittle angry for stuff like that. when you put thought into the creation of a level, invest time doing it, debate with yourself about what's better and what's user friendly, what's intimidating or too hard and where you should help the player alittle. then you expect at least someone to talk about your level, ANYTHING, bad or good, just somebody do that. the appreciation, this is what you're looking for. how would you feel if the 5 minutes collab beat your okapi? it'll be like, WHAT?! but..but..how?! and it's not that you'd whine for a rejudge or something, you'll just wanna know how this happened. it's not that you care soooo much about the comps that you'd go insane.
In my Gem level, I thought about it alot. I even made three levels there, remember? and I decided this was best, since it can be played as a challange - TNT style, without glitches; or with glitches, where you can do it in 2 extra ways, in which it's just a level, which even that alone, imo, makes better stuff than certain entries. getting the last place out of NINE, specifically with this entry, that demands an explanation. perhaps judging was to rushed, and people just looked at the code and thought, this is stupid, without playing?
to sum it all up, I can put the whole idea of these walls of text in two words, treat them as you wish: CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM.
