Wow... Kitti's artwork has significantly improved since...

EDIT: I very recently made a base of Jean:
Sure, it's a bit big, but who cares, really? She looks cool.
I was thinking of also putting clothes on her... maybe a mechanical hand? Jean could be one of the mechanical workers of the spaceship (or rocket), and her mechanical hand is a sign of all the trouble she goes through just to fix something?
Lol. At the least, this is significantly better than Ruby.
So clearly kitti is neezles/HB on a proxy. HB made a spite for Jean (or Rita or whoever is the humanoid cat) already... it was kind of amazing?
HOLY CRAP LOOK AT THAT BOULDER THE TEXTURE IS SO APPARENT!
SWEET TUTORIAL ARROWS!
FUEL CELLS? MI LIKE! POWER BOXES FTL.
Gravity changing can be interesting, but that feels like a different game.... How will objects react? What about water?
Wow! It's really great to see all this new artwork. Even if some of it doesn't end up in Aeon, the fact that we're finally making some progress is great. I'm feeling my pessimism slowly drifting away.
Well, the reinforced one. And an extra-fragile one. (maybe glass, maybe broken up wood) We also need arrows and dynamite symbols (they'll just go right on top of the crate. Don't draw the crate) The water crates (tap, et cetera) and the gem crate... ladders...
we don't have any yet. Basically we need a pattern to put for the terrain, and that pattern can be larger than the size of the terrain tile. You can try to come up with your own textures. Like maybe we could use a rocky, underground texture, or maybe a metallic one.
We also need sprites for the border of terrain. Like, you know how HATPC's terrain looks different if there is no terrain around it? We need some kind of border like that, but don't copy HATPC and add black smudges. And basically, we'll need about 12 separate images that will make up the border. Four of them will be for each side of the terrain block, another four for the corners when there's no terrain around, and another four for the corners, when you have a situation like this:
Code:
x
xx
and you need a border for the top-right of the bottom-left-most terrain tile.
I have redone the normal crate a bit to make it look less bland and I've made an reinforced version of the crate:
This is the latest version of the crate I had done. I forgot to update the front post, but if you want to update the art this is the crate you'll want to work with.
I don't think we've decided yet if these should be the "metal" and indestructible crates or the "wooden" and "metal" crates.
And I'd really appreciate it if we waited with the rope ladders and dynamite crates till later. At this point in development we need to focus on the basics. First we need the standard crates, terrain, background, spikes, platforms, power boxes/whatever we'll use and character standing sprites.
We don't know if we'll even use rope ladders yet.
I think those should be the metal and indestructible crates. I feel like if we're gonna have a crate that behaves like HATPC's wooden crate, it should at least look more fragile and shouldn't have such a thick border.
you mean like a wooden crate re-enforced with some metal? It could work, and maybe for fragile crates, it can just be all wooden, and it could look like it's about to break.
I think putting some cracks and holes in the metal crate could make it look plenty fragile. Especially if you added some special effects to it, like stuff falling from it every once in a while.
My problem with wood is that this game is set in a post-apocalyptic, futuristic world. They probably would use mainly metal in the time, and the little wood that has been used has probably rotten away.
the first looks like some kind of black hole or quick-sand tile. The second could be better. I'm not sure my first instinct is to think of it as a cracked crate.
Maybe try drawing a different kind of metal border, one that's thinner.
