'In another thread, I' said: Not sure what kind of music we'd be interested in. We're making Aeon to be completely built around the purpose of user-level making, but it will still have a story mode. So saying that, anything would be fine. Maybe something sci-fi, b/c the story is about these space explorers getting stranded on planet Aeon.
so yeah, let's discuss the music of Aeon, what it'll be like, and post some files. someone should dig up csd's old music links... | | Livio |

there was an interesting idea on the old site, posted by onarole, where you could upload your own music for your level. that would be great if people were making their own custom soundtracks, but more often, they would be violating copyright laws. Maybe we could let people stream songs that are uploaded to other places? | | Dekudude |

Hmm. Is Aeon anything like Earth? If so, we could have a very broad array of music.
- Beginning / on spaceship: techno, electronica
- Newly on planet: alternative... slow, mysterious, with a hint of techno
- Forest: flutes, heavy drums, string ambience or creepy, depending on the setting
- Desert: Arabic music
- Cave: Lots of drums and bass and/or slow and creepy
- Jungle: Lots of drums and flutes and marimbas / xylophones.
- Watery: (wouldn't CSD's weird symphony music from his videos be GREAT? )
Is that the sort of thing you're looking for? Or would the whole game be very repetitive, like HatPC, with little variation of anything?
EDIT - and no, I don't think custom songs would be a good idea. It would be neat if you had a feature (on this site, maybe?) that allows people to submit original songs, and if accepted, they can go into the game, but users shouldn't be able to just do it themselves.

that's exactly what we're doing deku. so yes to that whole post.
oh yeah, letting people put in their own songs could be a hassle to moderate. But that idea of yours sounds good. Too bad it doesn't seem like too many people would actually make their own songs | | Livio |

but I guess we should focus on making the songs solely for the main game, b/c they probably wouldn't be used much for user levels, and they would wear out quickly.
As for the Aeon main theme, it should be awesome and memorable, whatever it be. | | Dekudude |

CSD #1: If it was quiet, and in the background, it probably wouldn't be too bad, but it isn't exciting. to CSD; I recommend you keep this as just the percussion. That's the best part.
CSD #2: I think the songs should all be more intense, not this pretty. "Pretty" music really takes away from action games. Even places like frozen lakesides should be heavier.
So yeah; the songs shouldn't be pretty, no matter what. I've found that, though harps and strings may fit the mood of a level, it makes the level boring. This is an action game, not a "watch the dolphins frolic in the ocean" game.
Less people making their own songs = easier to moderate, haha.
I think you should try putting more time into Aeon. The site seems relatively stable, and has all of the features it needs right now, from what I can see.
If I find the time, I'll start work on some songs. Should the main theme be a big intense intro, or just a catchy melody that is remixed into each song?

Should the main theme be a big intense intro, or just a catchy melody that is remixed into each song? both? well, it shouldn't be huge and powerful otherwise, it may shock you if you open the game for the first time. But there should be buttons right there to turn on/off the music, that way if you have your speakers off or something you can go, "hey look, there's music"
lol I didn't like csd's songs much either. they should be more exciting, but also remember that there are going to be some good puzzle levels, where there isn't as much action. I think songs for such levels should be at a good pace (anything that isn't too slow) and maybe catchy, since it may not have much of anything else going for it.
There are hideous things in this site, that I have to hunt down and fix. Like how the layout needs some updating, the video archive is pathetic compared to the level database, the guide system was rushed and totally un-fun to browse through (lol it's just a big all-articles list), and the game main pages need some redesigning, and maybe the user profiles too....
lol that's a ton of stuff, and now that school is picking up pace. Well, I do work on Aeon every now and then, but not at a good work pace. | | Isa |

This one should be used in one way or another - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tUqSUiSolvQ
Mute Math - Reset. Instrumental piece of art.
It could be used for the introduction, at least, but I think it has more uses than that if we are in the need for it. | | shos |

By coordinating longitudinal pressure waves in the air to create complicated wave patterns consisting of many perfect sinus waves which have period times that rise exponentionally. Especially waves with periods that have a difference of factor 2^(5/12) and likewise 2^(7/12) sound exeptionally well together.

Don't try to fix the link, URL function is broken.
Copy and paste that in your browser.
I think that most of these cost money, and some (like Garage Band, the most famous of these) aren't available for Windows users. However, check them out either way. | | shos |

now uh, you could use the recording stuff that comes with windows, and edit it with uhh...well i don't remember the name of that program; my cousin told me about it when i wanted to edit stuff with ringtones in order to make a nice, hearable ringtone. i can ask him about it later.
anyways, there are tons of programs of that kind. come on, these stuff even reach the cell phones lately. you know. the stuff that you make a ringtone with button-clicking?

I think original music is pretty much mandatory if the game is to be any good. I suggested that song in CSD's levels (what's it called?) because it's so overused in his levels, it'd be a good inside joke.
I'll try getting started on some music as soon as possible, so you can preview my skittles, and see if they're up-to-par. I'm not an awful composer in my opinion, but everyone's always overfond of their own work. We'll see.
