'Dekudude' said: I think original music is pretty much mandatory if the game is to be any good. I suggested that song in CSD's levels (what's it called?) because it's so overused in his levels, it'd be a good inside joke. lol we should definitely do that. You've posted this before, but I don't know why I hadn't mentioned it yet. | | canadianstickdeath |

I'm using... some random version of Cubase. MidiMaker is free (I think), but it's quite limited. | | Dekudude |

I don't know of any webhosts that would allow you to directly link to it (AKA allow you to play it in the browser) and I don't want to put it on my website right now. It's just an MP3 though; no crazy applications or anything like that.

I dunno. I just upload my files to me freewebs. You're supposed to use that for files for your site, but I'm not sure how often they'd noticed that. I mean, it's more obvious if you don't have a homepage, but if you have some actual content... You're making a site, so couldn't you just upload it to there? | | canadianstickdeath |

Wait? .mp3? I guess I won't be listening to it tonight, then. | | Dekudude |

Okay, I uploaded the song to my own website "server." See my previous post for the link.
CSD; what do you have against MP3s?

"CSD; what do you have against MP3s?"
Filesize. How big it it? It doesn't really matter, because if it'll take longer to load than instantly, it's not worth doing instead of going to sleep. | | Livio |

I was listening to it while watching the video, but I decided it would be better tested while I played a level. So I'm gonna go play a level right now | | Dekudude |

Unless you have dial-up Internet, it won't be a big deal (haha, but it is like nine megabytes, 'cause I love pressing the highest "quality" button. ) but I can wait a day for criticism. I'm tired too, and am off to bed as well.

you know it wouldn't be a bad idea to continue the music after you've died. It could get disorienting if it kept restarting everytime you restarted. Or maybe that could be an option | | Livio |

don't know enough about music to give any.
just know that it's not super great, but it's not bad either, so that equals: good!
But I've also been thinking that if we were gonna even add music to the game, then we'd probably need a pretty varied or large soundtrack. | | Dekudude |

I agree. I think CSD could write some songs (give it another try... just make them more exciting!) and when I upload the new, optimized version of my website (may be a while: I'm aiming for Christmas) I'll definitely post something about Aeon on the forums. We have some good composers over there; much better than myself. We don't need just one artist or style!

Well, I could totally write songs, but I'm strictly limited to MIDI files. | | Dekudude |

As long as your MIDIs aren't too complex (a jillion instruments) I could make them into MP3s for you.

Most anyone can convert a Midi to an MP3. Record the Midi playing using, say, sound recorder. You'll have to turn up your "What U Hear"/"Stereo In" recording input and turn down all the others (if you don't have this kind of option, no matter how much you search for it, your sound card sucks). Then you can convert the wav into an mp3. Try, say, Audacity and the Lame Encoder, for example, or burn it to CD and rip it back off... Plenty of options for that. You can put as many instruments as you want, unless, like, the Midi is so ridiculous it lags your computer.
The only reason for doing this, really, is if you NEED mp3 format, or if you want to avoid the fact that midi sounds different on most everyone's computers. Personally, I'd rather the straight midis were uploaded, since I'd actually be able to listen to them.
On that note, I listened to your creation yesterday, Deku, and, since I've shared my own, I'm not really in a position to criticize. So I will just say that I thought it was good as well. | | Dekudude |

Well, I have some software that allows me to convert MIDIs to MP3s in higher-than-MIDI quality using actual recorded instruments. It's all freeware, but it's easier for me to just do it than you having to hunt down all sorts of "SoundFonts."
And yes, as far as I am aware, Flash requires MP3 or WAV. MIDIs would be a better idea, but I don't think Flash supports them.
And go ahead and criticize. Wasn't there something in there that bugged you? Too many instruments? Boring melodies? Dull rhythm? Too short?
Lastly, CSD, I think you should try writing a few more. I listened to your songs again, and they really are good... they just aren't exciting, or good for an action game. If you want slow music, keep it "intense" so the puzzles won't be boring.
Your jungle one was really good. I think if you kept it as nothing but percussion, though, it'd be awesome. The chimes were really out-of-place, but the drums made great background music.

Compare quality.
EDIT- oh, and btw; I don't mind multiple instruments. I'm just saying that I don't want you to drop a jillion huge complex MIDIs on me. Just simple stuff is best, haha.

Well I mean I could technically make them MP3s... but the instruments for Finale 2007 sound really bad.
Anyway, uhm... not sure when I'd be able to write music, and I'm not sure how I'd write music for this game. But if you need anything, uhh, classical or movie-esque, I'm your man. I mean, I'm probably going to college for music composition | | Dekudude |

Anything not boring or "pretty" will work, I'm sure. Somewhere (first page, maybe? I didn't check) there is a short list of music that my opinion claims will work.
