I started a list on the front post with all the links posted on this topic.
'dabigkid' said: Anyway, uhm... not sure when I'd be able to write music, and I'm not sure how I'd write music for this game. But if you need anything, uhh, classical or movie-esque, I'm your man. I mean, I'm probably going to college for music composition maybe we should try something like that and see if it'll work..
Btw, a good idea would be to make a good "Aeon Theme" and make some variations of that for a few other songs. Lots of games do that, and when you hear their theme, it'll instantly remind you of all the good times you had with that game Which also means that an Aeon theme would have to be really good. | | Bmwsu |

But what type of song? Techno or classic; rock or jazz?

Well, the "theme" itself would just be a melody, which would then be mixed in to the other tunes. I'm not a good melody artist, but if someone else can write a good one, I'll put it into "Run!".
As for the music, I think a little of anything would be good. I don't think jazz would work, as it's generally pretty slow and unexciting, but everything else should work.

How about.... G#, G#, A#, B, A#, F#, F#, F, D#? | | Dekudude |

Haha, that's really short, and doesn't have any rhythm assigned. I was thinking of something more songlike, and longer, that can be remixed, spliced, and diced into other songs.

Oh yeah, you can't hear the rhythm... In my made up "Note(Length)" format, it's G#(1/2), G#(1/4), A#(1/4) | B(1/2), A#(1/2) | F#(1/2), F#(1/4), F(1/4) | D#(1/1) | | Dekudude |

It sounds cool, and it would work in its own song, but it's not very theme-y. A main theme needs to be catchy, memorable, and exciting.

With some modification, particularly the taking-out of the sound effects, I think that would make a good prologue theme, but that's just me. It's all ultimately up to Livio.

I can't say that I'm overly fussed by that music, csd, though it's good that you know how to make it. I think we need something more spacey and futuristic. Look up the Mass Effect soundtrack on Youtube and you should get some good examples of the kind of sounds I'm talking about. The music you made sounds like something that'd accompany a medieval sword-swinging adventure game with knights and lame horses. If we were making a game like that, you'd be right on the money. | | jellsprout |

I have to agree with Jebby here. The flute like tones would suit a game like Zelda, but not Aeon.
I personally feel we need something more in the Dance styles. More bass noices, more drums and a higher tempo. In other words, more beat. But I understand if you find that too much. But we definitly need more bass.

I disagree. More Cowbell? Nevermind...
Actually, there's more bass in that song... I usually just forget about bass, lol, but I actually put some into this one. I have it's volume maxed out, but I find on some computers, it's hard to hear, while the ocarina just drowns everything out. When I wrote it, I was just getting off a long Majora's Mask spree. This would have been a number of years ago now... | | canadianstickdeath |

I did notice the bass. But it is very little. The song could use a little more.
And the Hannah thing needs more speed. Other than that, it is perfect.

Hmm... What what I remember, the bass is more on the left speaker, so if you only used one headphone... But seriously, I got the stuff on max volume, and it plays constantly from 0:34 to 3:49... Not really much I can do at this point... I suppose if I put a couple copies of it to play at once, I could maybe get it to be a little more prominent...
I got stop using so many "..." to end my sentences... | | Dekudude |

What software do you use to make this crazy shizzle? And is it free? | | canadianstickdeath |

I'm not sure what all there is for free out there... I know that the trial version of midi maker (doesn't do real audio, though, which you'd need for something like the breakdown) can be used for as long as you want... I use what I think is some random version of Cubase... That's not exactly what it's called though... Don't remember the exact name...
EDIT: I just read the Cubase article: "There are also lighter economic alternatives by Steinberg, originally named Cubasis" -- That's what I'm using, I guess.

I use Noteworthy Composer. It's free if you're okay with only being able to save ten times. (if you run out of all ten, just copy and paste everything into a new file, then you can save another ten times. )
I also use SynthFont to convert the MIDIs I make with NWC into actual MP3s, while also improving sound quality.

wow, I just found out that Flash has the ability to dynamically generate sound. That's really cool and we could probably use that for simple sound effects and stuff. But it can also be used to make music, apparently: http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flash/samples/media_6/ | | Dekudude |

Looks to me like that's just sound editing, not composing / creating.

at least this means we won't have to waste file size for the simple sound effects. | | Dekudude |

Yep
Well, I'm ready to start creation on a new song, but I'd like a theme. Do you have a good one? For example, underwater level, slow puzzle level, difficult and spike-based level...
