So far this challenge doesn't seem to be too difficult.

We could have went with Golbat, Farfetch'D (though Slash is nice I guess), Beedrill, Butterfree, Machoke and Vileplume, but it's more fun to choose Pokémon that we like ourselves.

Take screenshots/images if you can!

Farfetch'd gains x1.5 exp and is part of the Medium Fast experience group, so he will likely be overleveled a few levels compared to your other team members. He also gets STAB Slash and is the only Pokemon to get both Cut and Fly. After Dodrio he is the best Normal/Flying Pokemon in R/B.
Beedrill gets STAB Twineedle. Bug was still SE against Poison in R/B/Y, so he gets a SE attack against the absurd amount of Poison Pokemon and even 4x effective against all the Grass/Poison Pokemon. I used him in my Nuzlocke and he's actually not that bad.
Butterfree gets Psychic type moves and the Powders by level-up. He still has some use.
Vileplume is basically a mini-Bulbasaur. He lacks all the goodies, such as Razor Leaf, but is still an effective Grass type. Especially against Misty he can be a life saver.
Golbat and Machoke are not that great, but they aren't that terrible either. Their main problem lies in their movepools.
Ditto sucks, though. Easily the worst Pokemon of any generation ever.

My team shall be:
-Neezles the Bulbasaur
-Jorster the Rattata
-RocketGuy the Magikarp
-Sniper the Paras
-Isa the Doduo
-Soccerboy the Ditto

Venusaur, Gyarados and Dodrio are all pretty good Pokemon, Raticate is a powerhouse early game and Parasect still has some utility thanks to Spore+Bug moves. Ditto is terrible and I have no idea how I can properly use it. I will try to give all my Pokemon equal experience, so all Pokemon should get roughly equal use.
This challenge will begin shortly.

Edit:
Started the challenge. Named myself JSprout and my rival CSD. Neezles the Bulbasaur beat CSD's Charmander, though he did need a Potion for that. I had recently learned that if you win the second rival battle and talk to Oak again before buying any Pokeballs, Oak will give you 5 of them. I wanted to try this out, so I grinded Neezles to level 10 and I beat CSD thanks to Leach Seed+Growl. I went back to Oak, and lo and behold:

It's true! It's been over 15 years since I first played this game and I still find a new secret. It's amazing.

I'm done playing for today. I've just gotten HM01 and this is my team so far:
Spoiler:

I picked Neezles the Bulbasaur as my starter.

Against Rival 1:
-Charmander was beaten by Neezles (obviously), though I did have to use a Potion here.

Against Rival 2:
As I said earlier, doing this battle before buying any Pokeballs allows you to get 5 free Pokeballs from Oak. So I couldn't catch any other Pokemon yet. After a few failed attempts I finally managed to clear this battle by overleveling Neezles to level 12.
-Pidgey was beaten through Tackle spam. Nothing noteworthy.
-Charmander was beaten by first using Leech Seed on him, then lowering his Attack with Growl and finally defeating him with Tackle. Luckily he thought abusing Growl as much as possible was a solid strategy.

After Oak let me have his balls, I caught Jorster the Rattata. After a bit of grinding he was up to the same experience as Bulbasaur.

Against Brock:
-I tried to defeat Geodude with Jorster, to make him useful. This didn't work so well. After Jorster fainted I OHKO'd both Geodude and Onix with Whip Vine.

In the PC Center before Mt. Moon I bought Rocket Guy the Magikarp and inside Mt. Moon I walked around a bit around the entrance until I found and caught Sniperebor (sorry, ran out of space) the Paras. I started every battle with Rocket Guy to feed him some experience. Unfortunately Paras only knows Scratch at this level and he is weak against Poison, Flying and Bug, so I had a bit of trouble training him.
I taught the Water Gun TM to Jorster so he could help against any Rock types I would find. I saved the Mega Punch TM. Jorster already knew Hyper Fang and nothing else in my party can learn it.

Against Rival 3:
-Pidgeotto went down easily thanks to Jorster's Hyper Fang. That thing is a serious powerhouse early game.
-Rattata also went down to Jorster.
-Abra was given to Sniperebor. He really needs the experience.
-Charmeleon was beaten by Rocket Guy. He was still a Magikarp at this point, but thanks to the terrible AI and a few well timed critical hits to negate all the Growls, Rocket Guy managed to take Charmeleon on like a champ.

Against Misty:
-I tried to defeat Staryu with Sniperebor, but he just barely fell short. So Neezles finished the job.
-Starmie fell to Neezles with no trouble.

I gave the Dig TM to Sniperebor. Only he and Jorster could learn it, and with Hyper Fang and Water Gun Jorster didn't really need it as much anyway. I also saved Bubblebeam for when Rocket Guy would evolve. Again, Jorster already has Water Gun and with two Grass types and one Water type I wouldn't need him for Water duties anyway.
With a brand new 100 BP Sniper finally became useful again. He still wasn't as good as the other team members, but at least he could now score a few kills himself. And once he learned Leech Life he would even become more useful against the Grass/Poisons and against Psychics. He just had to be careful of Poison type attacks himself.
On the SS Anne I got the Body Slam TM, which I gave to Neezles. Sniper doesn't need it because of Dig, Jorster doesn't need it because of Hyper Fang and Rocket Guy doesn't need it now and will eventually get Strength anyway.

Against Rival 4:
-Pidgeotto went down to Jorster.
-Raticate went down to Jorster as well. No changes here..
-Kadabra was finished by Sniperebor and his brand Leech Life. Kadabra actually started with Confusion and took about half of Sniper's HP, but Sniper OHKO'd in return and restored his HP back to full again.
-Charmeleon was OHKO'd by Rocket Guy.

My team is finally coming together. By this time my starter Neezles is probably the weakest member of my team and he will remain like that until he learns Razor Leaf.
Lt. Surge is going to be a piece of cake. Then I can finally move on through Rock Tunnel. I'll do the Rocket Hideout and Pokemon Tower before any other Gyms so I can catch Doduo and Ditto early on.

Update:
Against Lt. Surge:
No troubles here. The puzzle was as annoying as always, but everything else was easy.
-Magnemite got taken down by Rocket Guy. I love how nearly no Electric types in this game actually have any Electric moves.
-Pikachu got taken down by Neezles.
-Raichu got OHKO'd by Sniperebor.

I forgot to pick up the Flash HM, so I went through Rock Tunnel in total darkness. I still remembered the location of most trainers, so I still managed to get through in a single go. Then I went straight through to Celadon.
There is a patch of grass next to the house where you get the Fly HM, so I managed to get Isa the Doduo before Pokemon Tower. I bought a Pokedoll (to skip the Marowak battle and get Ditto as soon as possible) and got a few TMs from the Department Store.
Rocket Guy the Gyarados learned Ice Beam, Jorster the Raticate learned Thunderbolt, Isa the Doduo learned Fly and Tri Attack.
Then straight to back to Lavender Town.

Against Rival 5:
I want Isa to catch up with the rest of my party, so I tried to feed as many kills as possible with him.
-Pidgeotto went down to Isa's Tri Attack. He did lose about half his HP.
-Exeggcute went down Isa's Fly, but he got hit by a 2-hit Barrage in return. Oh noes!
-Kadabra went down to Sniperebor's Leech Life.
-Gyarados went down to Jorster's Thunderbolt. Annoyingly this wasn't a OHKO. Bleh.
-Charmeleon went down to Isa again. He survived with about 10% HP left.

Now on to the Pokeflute so I can finally complete my team!

Edit:
I caught Soccerboy the Ditto and he has won his first battle! Against a Rocket Grunt he transformed into a Raticate and KO'd it back with a Hyper Fang and Quick Attack and then OHKO'd a Zubat with Hyper Fang.

Edit2:
Now that all my Pokemon have roughly the same level, I decided this was the perfect time to get the Exp All. So I caught everything I could find and evolved everything that evolves through Stones and now I have exactly 50 Pokemon in my Dex and I obtained the Exp All.

Ditto isn't actually as bad as I expected. The AI is terrible and there are few things that can OHKO or 2HKO themselves. So I can usually Transform and then spam their strongest attack and still win. In my first Giovanni battle you took out both his Onix and his Rhyhorn with Rage.

Second to last update. I have done everything up to Victory Road by this point.

Team:
Spoiler:

Because I had already skipped ahead, I could easily rush through the remaining Gym Leaders now.

Against Erika:
Soccerboy transformed into Victreebel. The AI fails and kept trying to Poison him, despite Soccerboy now having gained the Poison type. I wasted all his PP against Victreebel, after which I Struggle'd everything to death. Simple sweep.

Against Koga:
A combination of Rocket Guy's Strength, Sniperebor's Dig and Neezles's Body Slam took care of Koga. His final Weezing decided enough was enough and blew up on Rocket Guy, taking Rocket Guy down but winning me the battle.

Against Rival 6:
-Soccerboy Transformed into Pidgeot, spammed Sand Attack until Pidgeot couldn't attack anymore, then finished the job.
-Gyarados got 2HKO'd by Jorster's Thunderbolt.
-Exeggcute got OHKO'd by Isa's Drill Peck (who evolved by this time).
-Alakazam got Spore'd, then Leech Life'd to death by Sniperebor.
-Charizard got OHKO'd by Rocket Guy's Surf.

Against Giovanni 2:
-Soccerboy Transformed into Nidorino and kicked his behind.
-Kangaskhan got taken out by Isa's Drill Peck.
-Rhyhorn got taken out by Neezles's Razor Leaf.
-Nidoqueen was taken down by Rocket Guy.

Against Sabrina:
-Kadabra got Drill Peck'd by Isa.
-Soccerboy Transformed into Mr. Mime. I proceeded to put up Barriers and Light Screens to raise my defenses, then I took out Mr. Mime.
-Venomoth got taken out by Soccerboy as the boosted Mr. Mime.
-Alakazam got taken down by Rocket Guy.

Against Blaine:
Clean sweep with Rocker Guy's Surf. Nothing interesting.

Against Giovanni 3:
-Rhyhorn got taken down by Jorster's Blizzard.
-Jorster also tried to take on Dugtrio, but after he dug down I switched to Isa who beat him without taking damage.
-Nidoqueen got taken down by Rocket Guy.
-Nidoking got Spore'd and Dig'd by Sniperebor.
-Neezles finished the job by OHKO'ing Rhydon with Razor Leaf.

Against Rival 7:
-Jorster faced off against his eternal rival Pidgeot again. But this time he surprised the bird with Blizzard, which froze Pidgeot. I switched to Soccerboy to finish it off so he could get some more experience.
-Rhyhorn got OHKO'd by Neezles's Razor Leaf.
-Exeggcute got 2HKO'd by Isa's Drill Peck.
-Gyarados got 2HKO'd by Jorster's Thunderbolt.
-Alakazam got Spore'd and Dig'd by Sniperebor.
-And finally Charizard vs Rocket Guy. Charizard was almost 20 levels higher than Rocket Guy. First turn, Charizard used Slash and Rocket Guy used Surf, both taking each other down to about 30%. Then Charizard decided this was the perfect time to use Leer, allowing Rocket Guy to finish him off. Thank the AI!

My team is starting to get fairly underleveled. But luckily this is isn't a Nuzlocke, so after going through Victory Road I can train against the E4 and try again once everything's fainted.

I was busy lately so I almost forgot about this.

Anyway, I made it through Victory Road (without fighting any trainers). Near the exit I trained Soccer to level 39 and trained everybody else until they had equal experience.
At this point I figured an additional challenge would probably be in order. I won't defeat just the E4 and Mewtwo, but also the three Birds. So I set of to Seafoam Island to combat the first bird, Articuno!

Before I started the battle, I realized my dire situation. Three of my team members are weak to Ice, Soccerboy is a Ditto, Jorster is pretty frail and Rocket Guy is a bit underleveled because of Gyarados's terrible experience curve. This battle might be more difficult than I had expected. And it was.

Vs Articuno:
I started with Sniper. I figured he could survive one Ice Beam and get a Spore in. Then I would switch in Soccerboy and hopefully Articuno would still be asleep. Unfortunately Articuno critical'd and Sniper got OHKO'd without doing anything. Joy.
I send in Jorster next. He outsped Articuno and survived one Ice Beam, so he managed to get two Thunderbolts in. Articuno has a high Special, so perhaps Hyper Fang would have been better, but anyway Jorster brought Articuno down to 60%. He did his job well enough.
Next up was Rocket Guy. He got in one Surf before Articuno critical'd again and OHKO'd him. Great. Articuno was at about 40% health now.
Then was Soccerboy. For the first time in the entire battle, Articuno decides to use Gust instead of Ice Beam. This gives me the opportunity to Transform. Articuno decides to Gust again, so Soccerboy brings in two Ice Beams, taking the ice phoenix down.
Somehow, Soccerboy actually managed to useful.

Next up: Zapdos.

Edit: The team currently is:
-Neezles the Venusaur, level 41
-Jorster the Raticate, level 39
-Rocket Guy the Gyarados, level 37
-Sniperebor the Parasect, level 39
-Isa the Dodrio, level 40
-Soccerboy the Ditto, level 40

I made my way through the Power Plant. I used Jorster there against the various Voltorbs lying on the floor, so by the time I reached Zapdos he was almost fainted. Everyone else was still in full health, though.

Vs Zapdos:
I started with Isa. No reason for this really. I just figured Isa had no advantages to being saved for later and perhaps his Tri Attack could status Zapdos. Zapdos outsped and used Thundershock, but Isa survived the attack and retaliated with Tri Attack. No status, but the attack did do about 40% damage. More than I expected. The next attack KO'd Isa.
Next up was Neezles. Zapdos surprised me by using Drill Peck. I thought this Zapdos only had Electric attacks, but I suppose that's in FireRed and LeafGreen. Neezles survived the attack like a champ, but Body Slam unfortunately didn't paralyze. Neezles got KO'd by the next attack, leaving Zapdos at about 30% health.
Finally I brought in Rocket Guy. Zapdos, being the smart bird it's supposed to be, used Drill Peck instead of Thundershock. Rocket Guy shrugged the attack off and finished the battle with an Ice Beam.

Two birds down, only Moltres to go.

Edit:
Vs Moltres:
I started with Rocket Guy. Moltres does a CH Peck, Rocket Guy does Surf. Rocket Guy is at about 50% health, Moltres at about 55%. The previous turn gets repeated, except this time it is Rocket Guy that does the CH, sealing the battle. After the struggle against the other two birds, this was a bit anticlimactic.

I also gave Rocket Guy the Thunder TM. He doesn't need it, but it is more useful than Dragon Rage, Jorster already has Thunderbolt and nothing else can learn it. He could work as a back-up against Lorelei if Neezles proves to be too slow.

Tri Attack cannot status in Gen 1, that was introduced in Gen 2.

Raticate has such terrible Special, that a STAB Normal attack probably does more damage than a *2 Special attack if the opponent has higher Special than Defense. Now, Articuno has base 100 Defense, highest of the birds, but base 125 Special is even better, so I think Hyper Fang would do slightly more.

I have beaten the E4 with a terribly underleveled team. Since this isn't a Nuzlocke, the most efficient way to train would be to spend all my money on Full Restores and Revives and simply challenge the E4 over and over again until my team is strong enough to defeat them. When on my first try I reached Lance, I realized I just might have a shot.

Vs Lorelei:
Against Lorelei I still had the intention to train, so I tried to use as many Pokemon as possible against her.
-I had Soccerboy transform into Dewgong, Growl his attack down and Rest up to keep my health up. Unfortunately he scored a critical hit and beat Soccerboy. Rocket Guy finished Dewgong off.
-Neezles 2HKOd Cloyster, while surviving one Aurora beam in return.
-Jorster beat Jynx with Hyper Fang.
-I beat Slowbro with Isa's Drill Peck.
-I beat Lapras with Sniper's Spore and Mega Drain.

Vs Bruno:
-Isa beat Hitmonchan, Hitmonlee and Machamp with Drill Peck. Machamp survived one attack, but decided to use Focus Energy.
-The first Onix was beaten by Neezles, the second by Jorster's Blizzard.

Vs Agatha:
-Soccerboy transformed into the first Gengar and beat it with Hypnosis+Dream Eater. I messed up against Haunter and used up all my Hypnosis PP without using any Dream Eater attacks, but I still managed to beat Haunter and Arbok with only Confuse Ray and Night Shade.
-Golbat was beaten by Jorster's Blizzard.
-The second Gengar was beaten again by Soccerboy.

Vs Lance:
Lance took several tries.
-His Gyarados was by far his most difficult opponent. He outsped everything and OHKO'd most things with Hyper Beam. In the end Sniper managed to Spore him and beat him with Mega Drain.
-The first Dragonair was beaten by Rocket Guy's Ice Beam, his second by Jorster's Blizzard.
-I send out Rocket Guy against Aerodactyl. I used this to heal up my team again and beat it with Surf.
-Dragonite again outsped my entire team, but because of his Agility and Barrier spam most Pokemon were able to do damage. I started with Jorster, but he ran out of Blizzard PP before he could finish Dragonite off. Neezles paralyzed him with Body Slam, after which the others banded together to take him out. I think it was Isa who finished him off.

Vs Rival:
This one took many tries.
-Pidgeot fell easily to Gyarados's Ice Beams. I didn't use Thunder because it had a low chance of 2HKO'ing and if Pidgeot used Mirror Move I would be in trouble.
-Alakazam was most difficult. In the end Isa used his last Drill Peck to bring Alakazam to low HP while Alakazam tried to Recover (at full HP) and then Isa finished him off with Tri Attack after Alakazam used Reflect.
-I used the fight against Rhydon to heal up my team again. Neezles finished him off without trouble.
-Exeggutor was beaten by Isa's Fly. I needed to use one Full Restore when a Hypnosis hit, but this didn't give any troubles.
-Jorster beat Gyarados with Thunderbolt.
-Charizard was again difficult. I started with Sniper to Spore. I lucked out and Charizard missed his Fire Spin, so Spore hit. I switched to Rocket Guy, but after the first Surf he woke up. Rocket survived one Slash, bringing Charizard down to 30%. Jorster brought him down to a few HP with Hyper Fang and then finished him off with Quick Attack.

My team:
-Neezles the Venusaur (level 43)
-Jorster the Raticate (level 42)
-Rocket Guy the Gyarados (level 39)
-Sniperebor the Parasect (level 42)
-Isa the Dodrio (level 42)
-Soccerboy the Ditto (level 41)

Now there is just Mewtwo and then I'm done.

Edit:
Final update.

Vs Mewtwo:
I started with Sniper. Mewtwo started with a Barrier, allowing me to Spore. I switched to Neezles so I could Leech Seed him and then hopefully Soccerboy could outstall him. Mewtwo woke up, so I did two more Body Slams in the hopes of Paralyzing him, but Mewtwo KO'd Neezles.
Next I switched in Soccerboy. Mewtwo started with Swift, so I could Transform. Soccerboy Recovered up to full health. I Barriered up to +6, then I spammed Psychic to try minimizing his Special stat. After a few turns Mewtwo scored a Critical Hit with Swift and OHKO'd Soccerboy.
After this I send in Rocket Guy to try freezing him with Ice Beam, but after a few turns Mewtwo used Psychic and OHKO'd Rocket Guy.
I tried to sleep him again with Sniper, but Mewtwo OHKO'd with Psychic.
I send out Isa to revive a few Pokemon.
I send out Soccerboy again, but he got OHKO'd by Psychic.
I send out Rocket Guy to Revive Soccerboy again and used a single Ice Beam.
Soccerboy survived Mewtwo's first attack and managed to Transform. I revived Rocket Guy again and lowered Mewtwo's attack again with Psychic. Mewtwo scored another Critical Hit and beat Soccerboy.
