The judging for the parody comp still hasn't even started yet. 0_o But don't worry, we'll judge it soon... Right now Jell and I are signed up to judge it, and someone needs to come up to be the third judge.

HATPC Comp #26 - 16:9
This comp has already ended and has been judged.
Start Date: Saturday, Feb 14, 2009
End Date: Saturday, Feb 28, 2009
Game: Only HATPC content is allowed

Competition Rules:
Today may be Valentine's Day, but did you really expect a competition where all the levels would just have a bunch of hearts in it? No, instead this comp is dedicated to the United States' nationwide shift to digital TV on February 17th. Even though this date was postponed until June 12th or something, a lot of channels are still going ahead with the transition, thus terminating all of their analog broadcasts forever.

So the theme of this competition is the famous 16:9 ratio. All you have to do is make any cave with the dimensions proportionate to the 16:9 ratio. It's almost like another random-themed comp, so have fun with this.

EDIT: There's been some confusion on how to come up with the dimensions. Just know that they doesn't have to be strict multiples of 16 and 9. Here's an example: if I wanted to make a cave with the width of 100, I'd set up a proportion:
(100/x) = (16/9)
then you cross-multiply, so 900 = 16x, which means x = 56.25. So in the end, you've got the dimensions of 100x56. It might not perfectly resemble the 16:9 ratio, but it's close enough.

Final Results:
7th: Pride and Peril (HATPC) - jazz
4th: Unwanted Presence (HATPC) - Yaya

8th: lc (HATPC) - krotomo
1st: Surrender (HATPC) - Harumbai
2nd: Eternal Energy 1 (HATPC) - Teo
9th: Just a cave (HATPC) - a_neezles_a

I could extend something or add blank terrain. There are ways around it, but i probably don't have time to enter otherwise.

Yes, for example you could make a cave sized 80x45 but not 96x27.

What do you mean by making a '16:9' cave?

They mean that the dimensions have to be mulitples of 16 and 9. Example Width:80 Height:45, the width is divisble by 4 and the height is divislbe by 4 and you answers are 16 and 9. Do you understand???

A bit more.. but if 9 isn't divisible by 9..... I'm confused.

EDIT: Ok, nevermind. I know now.

Okay, I'll just make it easy for you. Your cave must be in either of these sizes:

16x9
32x18
48x27
64x36
80x45
96x54
112x63

Nothing else.

actually, it doesn't have to be strict multiples. If I wanted to make a cave with the width of 100, for example, I'd set up a proportion:
Code:
100 16
--- = ---
x 9
then you cross-multiply, so 900 = 16x, which means x = 56.25. So in the end, you've got the dimensions of 100x56. It might not perfectly resemble the 16:9 ratio, but it's close enough.

I won't be judging this. I have to read 10 books in the next 4 weeks, so I won't really have the time.

It's not that I don't get it. It's just I learned it so long ago that I didn't remember how to do it. I beleive that means you misunderestimated me.
