I don't criticise Obama for winning it, I'm criticising the Noble Prize commitee.
And Obama wasn't the first to try and unite Israel and Palastina. Pretty much every American and European president or prime minister should deserve a Noble Prize for that.
Obama hasn't really done anything yet. If he would get the Noble Prize in four years, after he has actually done stuff, I wouldn't have complained. But as it is now, it as if I got the Noble Prize for Physics.

omg! the House of Representatives passed the Health Care bill 220 to 215! But the Senate still has to vote on it before it becomes law, and if they approve it, it'll have to be merged with the House bill (b/c they may approve it with additional amendments) and then the united bill will go back into both houses and voted on again. Event then, it's still won't be law until the President signs it into law. This is quite an ugly system for making laws....
But yeah, with the vote margin that close in the House, I'm not sure it'll pass in the Senate. I actually don't know much about the real numbers, but I'm assuming that Democrats have a larger advantage in the House of Reps than they have in the Senate, because the House is states are represented based on their populations, whereas in the Senate every state has exactly two representatives each. If they could only pass it this close in the House, they're gonna need something big to help them pass it in the Senate.
Btw, have you heard about the Republican alternative that they presented lately? People say that it's not even a bill, but rather a last-minute released plan. Apparently, under their bill, they will not even end discrimination based on pre-existing conditions. Instead, each state will have to pass their own regulations on the insurance industries. This means that all of the companies will simply relocate themselves to the least-regulated state, and then legally sell their insurance nationwide. This is why people are saying that their alternative is a step backwards, rather than forwards. 0_o But then again, it's not very realistic for republicans to make a bill because they simply don't have the votes to make it work. Don't get me wrong, though. The state regulation idea sounds like it has its good intentions of trying to settle for a compromise where everyone can choose their own little path of action depending on what their state wants, but seriously, this creates one big ugly loophole.
I was watching C-Span the other day, and the House debates were boring like crazy. It's not even a real debate. Everyone just takes turns talking for five minutes giving their own little speeches. No one addresses any of each other's claims or anything, and there's no real discussion. The other day I just happened to see that C-Span was showing a debate in the British Parliament. At least in that it looked like they were listening to what each other were saying.
Also on C-Span, I saw this congressman answering questions and there is some intense racism among Americans. The channel was letting people call and email in and ask him questions, and a bunch of people wouldn't stop asking him about why the Health Bill will cover illegal immigrants. He kept saying that the bill doesn't change any of the current laws on how illegal immigrants do not qualify for gov programs, but it's also currently against the law for a hospital to deny anyone care (whether they're illegal or not) if they are in the emergency room. And apparently Americans hate the fact that it's possible for illegals to get cared for here, and they wouldn't stop pestering the Congressman about the issue. At one point someone called in to tell him "Okay, first of all: stop calling them 'undocumented'. They're illegals!"

...Americans. Is there anything they're good for?
Come on, how hard can it be to approve of a fully functional system that helps everyone except for the richest of the rich? America is the only developed country in the world without a public option, so take a wild guess at who's doing things right. | | Livio |

Modern Warfare 2 came out yesterday. There was this guy in my class who wanted to get it so bad that he left class during 7th hour (b/c we weren't doing anything in that class anyway), he drove to Target, bought the game, then drove back to our class, and showed off the box for the game. lol, he's probably been playing it non-stop ever since. | | jellsprout |

Lou Dobbs quit CNN! He had this entire movement against him from people who said that he repeatedly expressed racist views against illegal immigrants. | | Isa |

by CN do you mean Cartoon Network?
and by CC do you mean "closed captioning"?
lol I didn't really know him either, but a while before he quit I saw a report on the Spanish news channels about the movement against him. I noticed that the CNN article that said he quit did not mention these forces that may have influenced his decision, but then again it also did not mention who wrote the article... >_> | | jellsprout |

Yes, Isa Internet is the best. I'm actually a pretty good reader, though most books bore me. I like ones about things not often attempted like Animal Farm and Green Eggs and Ham. I'm also a sucker for a good cartoon book like a Far Side anthology, but overall reading sucks.

Compare the Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy books to the movie. 98% will claim the books were better than the movie, and 2% is dyslectic. | | Yaya |

Just because I've never read the book doesn't mean it's not good. I haven't seen the movie or read the book. But I still know the meaning of life some how. Probably because everbody else does.

hey, I'm pretty nearby to that. wait, what? it already happened?
btw, I bought Super Mario Bros Wii yesterday. It should be great I've also been playing Super Mario Bros 3 a lot lately. I bought the game long ago, got stuck on one level, forgot about it, played other stuff, and then I played it again a few weeks ago and got hooked on it again. Right now I'm in the last world with pink flames in it, apparently. | | Silver |

Speaking of games, I got a DS game called "Disgaea DS". You play as Laharl, his vassal Etna, an Angel Trainee called Flonne, and other people, for the ultimate rule over the Netherworld. Laharl, is practically the son of King Krichevshoy, who died prior to the events of the game. Thus Laharl - persistently - is attempting to win over the throne of the Overlord. This game is what I call a "must" for DS fans. Like, funny scenes, sadness, love, and anger management problems, all of these scenes thrown into a game called Disgaea.
Did I mention that Laharl laughs funny? | | |
