Well, if bin Laden was sent to jail, he'd probably be tortured more in jail than if he were executed.
Would you rather he suffered or he died quickly? | | snipereborn |

Also, you'd be hard-pressed to show malice aforethought.

Quirvy is right in here. this conversation is not for damning every killer to death by court, but just about the idea of death penalty.
if a man has murdered, as defined above, another person - then yes, I'll consider him getting a death penalty.
I'll give you a few examples of what I think.
Example 1: toughest (I mentioned this before - happened a few months ago, two arabs killed 5 israelis)
a person prepares his weapons and breaks into a house at night silently. he sees a sleeping kid and kills him. sees another and kills him. see their dad and kills him. sees their mom and kills her. sees their baby and kills her. then that person gets out of the house and goes home.
death penalty.
Example 2: almost
a person comes back home and sees his wife cheats on him with another man. he then rages and hits the other person, who eventually dies from his wounds.
life sentence.
Example 3: nope
a person wakes up and sees a robber in his house, who then attacks him. during the fight, the robber is killed.
no punishment+refund by government for all financial losses and health payments.
Exampe 4: Manslaught = different.
a man gets married or some other good stuff happens. to celebrate he shoots three bullets in the air(that is, btw, forbidden in the US, lol. in israel people are obviously not allowed to even have weapons). one of the bullets hits a random man 1 mile away.
10 years.

I laughed. You're calling me stupid for proving you wrong? Nice one. Moreover, I do know exactly what you meant, and was disagreeing with it. People who disagree with you aren't stupid, they're just different. If you wanted to say killing is killing, then you should have said that because killing != murder.

all of those examples but example 2 are based on real stuff. specifically examples 1 and 3 - which happened in my country and provoked a great discussion; example one was seriously horrifying, no wonder~ and example 3, the court judged him to serve life sentence for murder, but eventually he was set free or something. he had license to carry a shotgun* and shot a robber in his apartment after a mild fight and a runaway attempt.
*having a gun license in israel is VERY difficult. 99.9999% of the people who actually served the IDF in a fighting squad will not get one ever after they are released. so the fact that he had it implies that he was a really, really trusted man etc.
that guy was around 60 years old - not some fresh-out-of-duty-service-22.

@Example 4
Yes, that does happen, or at least it can. That is why it is illegal to fire a gun in almost any city, except in self defense. They did an episode of Mythbusters on it. Turns out that if you can manage to shoot a gun exactly straight up, the bullet will fall back down, but won't be able to kill. The problem is, shooting exactly up is pretty much impossible; usually, the bullet will maintain a ballistic trajectory and be deadly on impact.
Another example of manslaughter (at least in the US) would be getting into a bar fight (you are the aggressor) and killing the other guy, say by hitting him with a bottle or something. You didn't plan it, so it's not murder, but you still go to jail for a very long time (I think it's 7-15 years for a first offense, but don't quote me).

I dig it too, but it's not like it's going to really improve the situation. For every person that supports it, another will pop up that vehemently bashes it. Even Obama endorsing it doesn't matter. It's not like that'll get him many more votes. Sure, gay rights activists may have been disappointed that he hadn't backed it yet, but would they have been angered enough to vote Republican? Probably not. Anyone who supports gay rights, but doesn't align with a party will still probably vote liberal anyway, and gay rights Republicans are obviously in a category of their own. It just makes him look more likable, IMO (which is probably because I like people that support gay rights, lol).

It's an overall sign though. The more people that support it, the harder it'll become to oppose it. Note how it's not revolutionary when someone says that they oppose it, but also note that nobody goes from supporting gay marriage to opposing it.

According to some Twitter post, a mobile phone has more computation power than all of NASA (yes, that's all of individual departments combined) in 1969.

I dunno where to post this, so here it is. I've seen lotsa talk in the chatbox about funny news and stuff, and I thought, why let it prune; let's just post them here.
so uh, the wierdest news in israel is a 10-year old kid who's breaking records or something - she read 565 books last year. we got nothin as wierd as you guys do, lol. although once there was a nice thing about a couple who were doing...stuff on their balcony and they just fell down and broke arms and stuff.

I think that you should have posted this in the current events topic, as it doesn't really relate to politics.
But are you referring to when I posted a link to a story about some Maryland resident killing his roommate and then eating him? He apparently ate his heart and part of his brain.

Let me rephrase that; he is going to be 10 minutes away from my house, on my street, lol. It's a good 20 minute walk to get to the nearest intersection on foot, and cutting through a development on foot will be a pain, not to mention my neighbourhood's stunning lack of sidewalks. I guess I'll try to stay at home, overcoming the massive urge to stay at home I usually have.
