A new topic for talking about stuff going on in the news and in the world and stuff.

just trying to come up with some more serious conversations throughout the site. Just be careful when discussion politics. No freaking out allowed I'm not sure if this topic is a good idea, though. We'll see.

Anyway, I saw the President's Press Conference last night and though it was pretty good. I still don't get why it's such a heated debate. I believe that when I logged on today, I said something like "Barack Obama: the first president to be called a 'liar' by a Congressmen, directly at least."

Btw, I heard that it was "against the rules" for Congressmen to use the word "liar". Lol?

btw, I heard that swine flu was supposed to get crazy now that the school season started and the weather's getting colder. I remember we came in one day and all the desks were completely sanitized. I even saw a guy brushing his teeth in the bathroom Okay, maybe that was irrelevant, but still, where's my swine flu outbreak??

oh wait, I just realized. I'm in the desert. Everything's already dead here

{THE SWINE FLU ISN'T DANGEROUS AT ALL

The swine flu is like the regular flu, except with a LOWER mortality rate. If you freak out over the swine flu, you need to turn of CNN and grow yourself some brains.

btw, today was the 8th anniversary of 9/11. I was 9 nears old and in the 4th grade when that happened. The weird thing was that elementary school started at 9:00am I think, and the attacks happened at 9am. And I remember that we did nothing the entire day, while my teacher sat in the back of the room listening to a radio that he had. He had the volume pretty low, and I don't remember him doing anything else but listening to it, the whole day. That was when I was still in New Jersey, and we were only an hour drive away from New York; my dad would go there to work a lot of times, and I bet a lot of people in our town knew at least someone who went there to work, or lived there.

Also, throughout the day parents kept showing up to pick up their kids. We didn't know what was going on, and we even joked about it, wondering if our mom was going to pick us up next. But I don't even remember wondering about what was going on. I think we all just accepted it as just another free day. When I finally got home at the end of the school day, I finally found out that the Twin Towers had collapsed. It was the craziest thing I've ever heard: planes crashing into buildings in the middle of new york?! And I've been to the World Trade Center when I was really little too, when I used to live in New York.

Later when I got to Middle School, they made us take a class on how to type, and our computer teacher started an organization that supports the troops in Iraq by sending them "goody bags" with hand-drawn pictures by students. I remember she said that on 9/11, her first class was searching through the internet looking for images that they were putting in a PowerPoint presentation. And they kept coming across these pictures of the burning buildings, and that's how they found out about what was going on.

I didn't lose anyone in 9/11, but I probably knew quite a few people who did.
Btw, I heard that the President was at ground zero today, and that all of a sudden it started raining, and neither he nor his wife wanted to use an umbrella.

Even though it happened when I was in 1st grade I had no idea what happened on that day until atleast 2nd grade. The teachers didn't feel like having us exposed to such news, so they just said "some bad men did some bad things". At the time, I was innocent enough to think the worst thing somebody could do was shoplift from K-Mart. But obviously the planes did not steal anything from K-Mart, I later learned. Though, on the current side I was pretty shocked that my High School didn't do anything in remembrence of it today.

lol the "2rd" grade? I think I just tried pronouncing that as "the secerd grade"

All my school did was lower the flag half-way. And when Ted Kennedy died, they kept the flag half way for quite a few days

I was 11. I remember I was at a friends house. His dad got a call, saying he should put on the news. At the time, I didn't really realise how big it was. I had never even heard of the Twin Towers before.
It wasn't until the next day at school when I heard exactly what had happened and what impact it had.

same here. we didn't understand the size of those buildings, so we were like, oh well. we were used to count deaths and stufff since the arabs never stop shooting rockes at israel...but everyone was so shocked, and we didn't understand why. actually, we thought it was kinda cool =\

about a year later, i think, we understood the sizes of the thing, and realized its meaning...

Our teacher talked 30 minutes in the morning about what happened, and the weekly quiz about general news from around the world was replaced with a quiz with all questions related to 9/11. I thought everything was extremely overhyped at the time.

I'm still amazed by how they designed those buildings. They collapsed vertically, instead of tipping over, so who knows what kind of carnage that would've brought if they tipped over?

if you, or me, were hit by an airplane, you, or me, would be black and burned to a crisp. and yes, you or me, would fly a couple hundred feet. You or me, would be mangled so much it would be hard to tell that you, or me, were a human. but luckily, that won't happen.

Hopefully.

Some of the people in the towers must have been hit by one of the airplanes.

actually in one of the towers you could actually escape if you were in the upper floors because one of the stairways was still, barely, there.

And some people jumped out of he buildings.

I don't blame them.  Instant death or burning to death, or if you survived that, being crushed by rubble.

lol, no, not at all.

if you were hit by an airplane you would be split into at least 9 parts; some would be at the place whe plane hit you, some would be alittle back and above it, and some below. you'll be a bunch of red flesh, you won't be bad and you won' be burnt. the plane won't feel you, it won' change his direction, it won;t change anything...

Actually, they were very poorly designed. Such buildings should be able to withstand an explosion such as that.
