Ruthenium is the coolest element! Ruthenium complexes are approachable inorganic syntheses for newcomers and provide significant challenges to keep experienced chemists busy. The beautiful colors accessible via unique coordination chemistry of Ru make it useful for photovoltaics and electrochemiluminescent devices. Not to mention its utility in organic syntheses as a catalyst. Lastly, heavy metals rock! |

Shos, you only won the halfround. But since flashmarsh doesn't appear to notice that he won the last round, no objections from me.
Maybe I should have sent him a Promethium reminding him to start the next round...

Clearly, the coolest part of the Periodic Table of Elements is that you can take the bottom two bars and dual-wield them like katanas whenever you find yourself in desperate need of an effective weapon to use against chem-zombies. WIN, those chembies don't stand a chance.

Oxygen. No, really? =p
And Darvince, you can make a liquid, gas or solid out of basically anything. I'm pretty sure, at least. |

Liquid helium.
Liqued helium-3 cools down to only about 0.2 K. Praseodymium alloys can be cooled down to a few mK. And any paramagnetic material can technically reach negative temperatures, though these are actually hotter than positive temperatures.
Edit: So to make things clear, my entry is praseodymium.

Gallium. Why? You can melt it in your hand, and make a copy of something else... then melt that...
Some of the compounds are used in (semiconductors/conductors, I forgot)... and the gallium can diffuse into some other metals and weaken them... and it's so cool when you break metal that's been attacked by gallium |

The magnetocaloric effect can also be used for heating, so I suppose praseodymium could also become pretty hot.

If your looking for the most hot (temperature) element, I'd say Phosphorus.
If your looking for the most hot (good looks) element, I'd say Einsteinium. -flirt- |

...oh come on, and you think that's cool? =\
I'd give you a point tho, because of the last line; if I were you, I'd me searching for a picture of a rock of some heavy metallic element.
this way, we'll have both HEAVY METAL and ROCK!! musical win!
2/10

Liquid helium.
Oh man. that's cool. nice.
7.4/10
'Darvince' said: 'Isa' said: 'shos' said: the coolest thing you can find in the periodic table.
Liquid helium.
No it's solid helium. (Or is that even possible...)
That can happen in only a veeeeeeryy specific range of temperature and pressures. in general, the periodical table takes stuff as the percentage in which they exist in nature(for example, if the weight would be 4 in 99% of the time and 100 in 1%, it'll be 4.96).
so solid helium is not mentioned in the periodic table.
N/A / 10

Chembies? just for that you get like 8/10
'Cedric' said: Oxygen. No, really? =p

also, not all stuff can be solid. the phase diagrams for stuff is really, really wierd for some stuff.

this is cool, but the same can be said for gold. you can actually shape it like butter, and it is more valuable. If I had to choose between 1 ton of gold, and 1 ton of Gallium, it won't be much of a choice..

But you can't melt gold in your hand! Sure, you can sculpt it, but melting it is more fun.

Hot, but it's not a craze yet. 4/10

I think they need a praseodymium alloy for that though... I'll just give you the benefit of the doubt. 7/10

Einstenium is all glowy and stuff but it's radioactive and not that popular...
And phosphorus is cool when it's white (not racist) 6/10
C'mon, no tungsten? I mean, it's all popular in those roundish lightbulbs... |
